Support our international networking and our participation in the World Conference on Tobacco or Health (WCTOH) 2012 in Singapore with your donation. We need 2.000 Euro to fund our attendance.
To be successful, Unfairtobacco.org needs an international network. The perfect opportunity is the World Conference on Tobacco or Health (WCTOH) taking place every three years. The next WCTOH is scheduled on March, 20-24 in Singapore. During these few days all major organisations working on tobacco control are meeting to network, discuss joint projects, and share experiences. In 2009, Laura Graen participated in the WCTOH in Mumbai and introduced the campaign to the international tobacco control audience. Since then, Unfairtobacco.org is also an important partner of the Human Rights and Tobacco Control Network (HRTCN), which is going to hold a meeting on March, 19 in Singapore.
Who will represent Unfairtobacco.org?
Since she founded Unfairtobacco.org seven years ago, Laura Graen puts an emphasis of her work on partnerships with international organisations and individuals. During her research in Malawi and at several conferences on tobacco control, she established many contacts that are essential to our work.
Which activities are important?
Face-to-face contacts are essential for sucessful cooperation and the WCTOH is the most suitable event for this purpose. Especially, since organisations lacking internet presence will be represented at the conference. In order to find reliable partners for future projects, it is not sufficient to write an email or simply call. Our (current and future) partners appreciate meeting us in person to discuss joint projects and all their implications (e.g. financial contributions, imploementation plans, etc.).
To raise awareness on environmental destruction and violation of human rights, Laura Graen will give two presentations on
- how the tobacco industry causes the ruin of Malawi through child labour and exploitation and
- how to create a counter-image to the glossy image and the greenwashing of the tobacco industry (“truth campaign” approach).
2.000 Euro – what for?
The travel costs and the registration fees amount to 2.000 Euro:
- conference registration fee: 470 Euro
- return flight to Singapore: 900 Euro
- food and accommodation: 630 Euro
Laura Graen shares here experience and expertise on voluntary basis. She does not receive any remuneration.
Please help us finding strong international partners. No matter how much – 5, 50 or 500 Euro – any donation is highly appreciated!
