You cannot eat tobacco. Growing it destroys the environment and is hazardous for the health. Tobacco farmers cannot get out of poverty because of the little revenue they earn.
But there are projects promoting alternative livelihoods to tobacco. We want to communicate these initiatives and thus support them.
You can have an insight into existing programmes and projects of alternatives in our study Alternative Livelihoods to Tobacco. Approaches & Experiences.
We present current projects on our pages.
On 28 November 2012 we will host an international conference in Berlin, Germany, expecting guests from tobacco growing countries. Additionally, we offer several events on human rights, tobacco control, bamboo as alternative crop, and food security during the week of the conference.
